Beauty and The East

"... The question is, rather, why have so many Australians - one pre-verdict newspaper opinion poll reckoned 90% of the population believe Corby is innocent - got so WORKED UP about a case that in many respects appears little different from most of the scores of similar cases involving foreigners caught with drugs in south-east Asia? After all, the drugs were found in Corby's bag; she could give no credible alternative explanation for how they got there, and neither could any of the witnesses called in her defence.

Of course, the 27-year-old former beauty student could be innocent. But it is a HUGE LEAP from expressing SYMPATHY in questionable circumstances to committing TERRORIST ACT. What happened?"

"Beauty"?? Schapelle Corby isn't really all that attractive. I wouldn't kick her out of bed in the morning, but I don't really see her as anything more than average.

Does anyone else see the glaring catch-22 situation that Schapelle Corby had to face. If Corby could offer a credible explanation as to how the drugs made it into her bag, then she would be guilty. If she couldn't find an explanation, she is guilty regardless.

How in the world could she be expected to offer a credible explanation of the drugs if she was unaware of them? Sheesh. What a ludicrous statement.

Last time I checked legal process states that one is "innocent until proven guilty." Your above statement about Corby's failure to provide a credible explanation making her guilty would suggest the opposite. Her bags clearly passed through several hands from the time she checked them in australia to the time she was caought with the drugs in Bali, how on earth could she possibly know how it got there?

Regardless of her family history as drug dealers, you can't deny the fact that indonesian officials did everything in their power to prevent the truth from coming out including handling the marijuana with their bare hands and burning it before it could be tested. Clearly Shapelle made the perfect mule for whoever is truly responsible given her famlily history and reputation.

Those of you who assume her guilt based on this are being way to judgemental of her character, even if she did pedal drugs in AUS, that doesn't mean she smuggled them to Bali. Fact of the matter is they didn't have evidence beyond a reasonalble doubt that she is guilty so she should therefore be free, thats how we run things in the western world and I am sure if any of you were on trial you would want it that way too.

On an aside for the first comment. You must be the most shallow minded person on the face of the planet. The headline was not meant to be an attestation of how attrative Shappelle is. Dude read a book sometime dumb a##.
